Home made SS cereal This week all the ingredients that are listed on the SS cereal pack, i bought from the health food shop, except the seeds and nuts which are available cheaper from the supermarket.
This morning I made my mix with one cup of each of the cereals, half a cup of each of the nuts and seeds and one teaspoon of cinnamon. It looks and tastes exactly the same as SS.
It was a little expensive to purchase the lot, cost me $30 but I have got enough to make cereal for the next 12 months and when you look at $12 for a packet of SS cereal this is way, waaaay cheaper. I'm very happy with the result I hope this can help someone else. Cheers Mez

cereal substitute? Hi mezypie. I have never bought the SS cereal, as when I did it, they didn't have it. I have 30g of oats with 70ml of milk twice a week, and would love to eat cereal as yoghurt and fruit is getting a little boring. Is there a similar cereal that I can buy in the supermarket that is able to be substituted?
thanks,
Nikki :)

Nikki some of the more experienced SSers will have to answer that one, my clinic told me i could only have porridge or SS cereal,
have you tried alternating cereal days with eggs, poached, omelette, scrambled, boiled, dry fried, the possibilities are endless and some eggs with veg eg. mushrooms or zucchini, tomato etc are really filling. Cheers Mez

breakfast alternatives HI, yes I have, on weekends, but don't seem to have the time or inclination on a work/school day. Want something quick and filling. I do stew fruit from time to time when I have a few hours spare, and it lasts a week, i have it with yoghurt. Its great on the colder days. Getting hotter now though and want to add some variety to my breakfast menu. Thanks, Mezypie! :)

what about this recepie for a sweet egg concoction that i'll be trying tomorrow. i found this reciepe on the other ss forum although i sadly cannot remember the poster.
fruit egg"muffin"
beat your egg allowance with sweetener.
blitz your entire seed allowance (including flax) and add to the egg mixture.
add your fruit allowance. i'm using blueberries for mine tomorrow.
put the mixture into little cake tins or ramakins and put in a hot preheated oven (200c) for 5-10 mins, or till the " muffin is fluffy and a lightly golden brown.

Hi MezyPie!
Can you please tell me the ingredients that are in the SS cereal?; I would love to have cereal some mornings. I had bought the SS cereal maybe 18 months ago from our local SS clinic; but they closed it down. Thats another story though.
I would be very grateful indeed!
Ta,
Biddy.

My consultant told me the next best thing to the SS cereal that you can find in the supermarkets (coles especially) was Burgen Cereal.
Because I live about 2hours away from my clinic and one packet doesnt last long...
I havent had a chance to look for it, but have been meaning to.
I just have Special K when I run out which my consultant was livid about, she claimed Special K has no nutrients whats so ever....but its never affected my weight loss...
Sorry for all of those who have just read this and dont want to know the "cheats"
Cheers

Joybelle I also have special k twice a week (usually weekends) as i can't stomach the SS cereal. I have never mentioned it to my consultant - & it has not affected my weight loss at all over the past 8 months. probably they have to push their own products which is why they don't like giving alternatives!!

This is the list of ingredients as it appears on the SS packet,
rice bran flakes
seeds (sunflower, pumpkin)
nuts (almond, hazelnut )
organic barley flakes
puffed Kamut brand wheat
rolled triticale
roasted buckwheat
amaranth
puffed millet
spices
Just ask at your health shop, for the ingredients, they will point you in the right direction

I actually love it, i add cinnamon to my mix and have my portion with stewed fruit and yoplait no fat french vanilla yoghurt and sometimes add the ground up seeds as well. Mez
