SS Vegetarians Hi - just thought it would be cool to have a thread dedicated to SS vegetarian recipies. So anyone out there on the vegetarian plan, share your favourites here :)

HI
I'm a vegeterian so will be watching this thread with interest! I eat cheese and eggs but no meat. Tastiest meal so far is nachos which I made with kidney beans SS chilli sauce and mexican spice, onion and tomato, cooked and then blended so it was like a bean dip. Took my days mountain bread allowance cut into triangle chips and baked till crispy. I made a mini coleslaw with cabbage carrot and a bit of tahini dressing to go on top since we cant have sour cream lol. But I really enjoyed it! The other thing I like doing is a big cheesey melt with my mountain bread in the sandwhich press, adding mushrooms and tomato YUMMM

I'm a brand newbie (started ss yesterday) and a vegetarian also, so very interested in what everyone else is eating.
I had eggs for dinner last night (with vegie soup and my one piece of bread) and salad with cheese for lunch. By the end of the day I was feeling a bit yuckky from both of them. Not sure actually if it was both of them, combined (more protein than I would normally eat) or just the whole detox thing.
I had cruskits today with advocado (I'm allowed 40g per day as part of my "easing in") and mushroom with a mix of cream cheese and tasty cheese grilled on top, with a side salad. Very yummy.
I'm wondering about stir frys. I usually add soya or oyster sauce, or honey and teriaki sauce. Now none of that is allowed, how do I make a stirfry taste yummy? Garlic and ginger?

lkime how are you going on SS?
I have plummeted and am trying to get back on it but I have a similar thing to you, I feel yuck after eating protein. I am not a vegetarian but I dont eat diary and I dont eat red meat and after having my allowances for protein for lunch and dinner I feel so yuck.
It is one of the reasons why I have gone off the program but I did lose weight very quickly and I really want to get back on it.

Tamari is allowed for stir frys if that is any help.
Are you having beans and lentils? There are some good recipes for dishes withthose in if you feel yukky after eggs and cheese. I know most of us aren't allowed beans often but perhaps you are? Or how about tofu?

Tofu can be a bit too much for me to handle as well (I wish I wasnt so sensitive to protein!!!)
I can have beans but only twice a week :( If I could have that every day this would be so much easier.

I think to make SS work for you and help you stick with it, maybe you need to tweak it a bit and have the beans a bit more often. Have you talked to your consultant about it? Also are things like eggs any more palatable if you do things like fritatas or add cream cheese into a soup?

The last time I had egg I burped the taste of it for about 2 days later.
I really don't know why my body is so responsive.
I feel like a failure telling them I am failing, I have told them I am sensitive to protein, but they forget so one week I will tell them, the next week they will say try and mix your meals up abit and add cheese, red meat and eggs etc (things that I can't eat)....
I REALLY want to go back on the program, but I have put my weight back on and I am too embarrassed to step back into the clinic and try and start again.

Gosh - that makes life hard for you. As I said before, I think you should have your protein in whatever form works for you especially as you know you can lose weight sticking to the programme apart from that. Don't be discouraged and don't worry too much about the clinic. There are a lot of people here who are going it alone and not necessarily sticking to SS 100%. It is a waste of your money though.
Start with one meal and drink the water and see how you go, report in here if it helps (it certainly does for me) we can't see you so there is no need to feel embarrassed.
Hang in there.

Ikime have you check out the sorces that SS sell :?:
like the Thai spices and curry spices and Asian dressing just to mention a few. I use to stir fry with them and marrinate my meats .

Zoeh,
Sorry it's taken me so long to reply. I hope you've found some answers to your protein problems.
I eat dairy, so I think that makes it easier.
I have yoghurt with fruit for brekky, then beans or nuts with salad for lunch followed by my apple. Mundane I know, but that's how I work best. I like routine. If I really feel a need to break I'll have a clear soup with tofu and vegies for lunch
If I have cheese for lunch, then I just can't face protein at dinner time. I feel physically ill if I have eggs and cheese both in one day.
Dinner is my hardest meal at the moment. I just can't seem to get into a routine of meals that will satisfy me. Cooking for a family makes it tougher I think, I wish I just had to cook for me!
Anyway, I'd love to hear how you're coming along.
Everyone else, thank you for your stirfry ideas.
