Winter Stew ideas???
Hi everyone - with winter well and truly here I am missing nice warming stews. Has anyone concocted a SS friendly stew? I'll have a go and see what I come up with. If I have any luck I'll post the recipie up here. but if someone out there has already had some luck, please share!

http://sureslimlosers.14.forumer.com/viewtopic.php?t=190 Hi Tiffey, This was a recipe I posted in Feb. I found the last portion in the freezer recently and it was very welcome in this cold weather! Have you tried searching for a recipe? If you click on the Advanced Search to the left of the screen, below the Quick Search box. Put in your keyword (try stew), select the kitchen forum and click on view as posts rather than topics. Have fun searching - and thanks to all those of you who post recipes. I must try and live up to my name and get posting myself!

Well, I did it - I've come up with my own stew/casserol-ish recipe and it's an absolute winner (to me at least)! The only downside is that the gravy doesn't thicken but it's so full of flavour that it's fine - just serve it in a bowl, rather then on a plate. Tiffey's Beef Caserole Your protein portion of Blade Steak cubed salt & Pepper to taste 1/2tsp mustard powder 1/2tsp garlic crushed 1 Tbsp Tamari 1/2Tbsp Balsamic vinegar 1 - 1 1/2 Tbsp onion chopped finely 1/2Tbsp tomato paste (optional, it's not quite 'on plan' so, up to you) Your vege portion of Brussel Sprouts and cauli flower cut bite-sized Mix the above ingredients (except the veges) and marinate for an hour or more. Cook meat and marinade in 1Tbsp grapeseed oil. place into a small lidded oven proof dish. Add a little water (1/2 C max) to the pan and swirl around to remove any flavouring left in the pan and add to the meat, stir the veges through, cover and bake 45 mins - 1 hr. I know it looks like a lot of ingredients and a lot of work, but it's really quite simple and SO worth the effort! Enjoy!

do you think you could do a veggie version? maybe substituting the meat with pulses?

Tiffey- 08-30-2007

I definately think a vege version would be great - chickpeas or kidney beans maybe? Give it a try and let us know how you get on - maybe I'll give it a go too (I'm not a vegetarian but I love vegetarian meals anyway!!)

what you could do is mix your veg and protien allowance (beans) with your free veg soup. what i'm gonna try is keeping the free veg soup chunky and not puree the mixture. that way it'll be a nice chunky broth. i.m gonna try it with mushrooms, half a tomato, parsnips and corgettes. i'll let you know how it goes!
